Görlitz (Aussprache ⓘ /?, oberlausitzisch: Gerlz, Gerltz[2] oder auch Gerltsch[3], obersorbisch Zhorjelc ⓘ /?) ist die östlichste Stadt Deutschlands, Kreisstadt des Landkreises Görlitz im Freistaat Sachsen und größte Stadt der Oberlausitz. Sie liegt an der Lausitzer Neiße, die seit 1945 die Grenze zu Polen bildet.
Görlitz is the hometown of current German football players Michael Ballack and Jens Jeremies. In 2006 Görlitz/Zgorzelec was a candidate for European City of Culture 2010. It was hoped that the jury could be convinced by the concept of a Polish-German Cooperation but Essen got the award, with Görlitz achieving the second place.

John of Görlitz (also known as John of Bohemia and John of Luxembourg; 22 June 1370 – 1 March 1396) was a member of the House of Luxembourg and the only Duke of Görlitz (Zgorzelec) from 1377 until his death.
