Gothic short stories have always been a favorite with my students. From the mystery and suspense to the old creepy buildings, to the heightened emotions and the hints of the supernatural… there is just something about the gothic genre that kids gravitate towards.
A classic gothic tale is Charlotte Bronte's JANE EYRE, but gothics can range from the clearly paranormal like Bram Stoker's Dracula to the spookiness of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, which has no supernatural elements, to the wild passions of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
