The Chancellor of The University of Rwanda is appointed by Presidential Order. [2] . The Chancellor has a ceremonial role of opening the UR academic year, presiding over graduation ceremonies and granting other awards.

African Leadership University or ALU is a network of tertiary institutions with operations in both Mauritius and Rwanda. ALU is part of the African Leadership Group, which aims to develop 3 million ethical and entrepreneurial leaders for Africa and the world by 2035.
