The charts below show the ideal tightening torque for each bolt grade for a variety of sizes. The size column also includes the thread count. Identify the grade, size, and thread density of your bolts and refer to the tightening torque columns.
Properties shown are those of coarse 8‐thread heavy hex nuts. Hardnesses are Brinell Hardness numbers. The nut manufacturer, at his option, may add other markings to indicate the use of atmospheric‐corrosion‐resistant steel.
Interchangeability of Grade 2 and A307A Fasteners. In general, since the minimum strength requirement of a Grade 2 is greater than that of an A307A, a Grade 2 can be successfully utilized in applications where an A307A is specified, as approved by the “Engineer . of Record”.
Grade 8 150,000 psi. Imperial Bolts: High Tensile (Imperial) Grade 5 120,000 psi. High Tensile (Imperial) Grade 9 160,000 psi. The tensile strength is measured in tons per square inch or 1000’s of pounds per square inch. e.g. 28 TSI or 62,220 PSI The la er is the more commonly used measurement. 304 Stainless Steel.
29 Αυγ 2023 · Grade 2: This is the standard grade for bolts with no markings. They have a tensile strength of up to 74,000 PSI for bolts over ¼ inch. Grade 5: Identified by three radial lines, these bolts have a tensile strength of up to 120,000 PSI.
Grade 2 requirements for sizes 1/4 through 3/4 in apply only to bolts and screws 6 in. and shorter in lengths. For bolts and screws longer than 6 in. Grade 1 requirements shall apply. 307A
