14 Οκτ 2024 · The Palace of the Grand Master, the administrative center of the Order of the Knights of Saint John, is probably the most significant monument of the medieval history of Rhodes and its occupation by the Knights.
The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, also known as the Kastello (Greek: Καστέλο, from Italian: Castello, "castle"), is a medieval castle in the city of Rhodes, on the island of Rhodes in Greece. It is one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Greece.
The Palace of the Grand Master. Walking up the street of the Knights, at the top and to the right is the Grand Master’s Palace. Opposite the palace amongst the ruins from different historical periods, one can determine the ruins of the Catholic Church of St. John.
4 Μαρ 2024 · The Palace of the Grand Master, also known as the Kastello, is an edifice steeped in the rich tapestry of history on the island of Rhodes. Constructed in the 14th century by the Knights Hospitaller, the palace served as a fortress and command center for the Order of Saint John.
13 Νοε 2020 · Originally built as a fortification, the Palace of the Grand Master played an important role in the defence of Rhodes throughout its history. Visitors today can tour the castle, seeing parts of the structure built during different time periods and enjoying the museum collections housed there.
The Palace wаs built іn the early 14th century by the Knights оf Rhodes, whо controlled Rhodes аnd оther Greek islands frоm 1309 tо 1522, and the Grand Master оf the Order used it as his abode.
