Hating Grandpa Joe is a tongue-in-cheek fan theory surrounding the 1971 fantasy musical film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that supposedly aims to expose Grandpa Joe as a vile human being and the true villain of the film.
After faking paralysis for 20 years just to dance his way out of bed when Charlie announces he needs someone to go to Wonka's factory with him. Grandpa Joe then proceeded to complain and eventually force his grandson to drink the off-limits soda in the factory that nearly killed them.
For some reason, r/ grandpajoehate exists. The subreddit, comprised of well over a hundred thousand subscribers, is dedicated to posting memes and rants focusing on their vitriolic hatred of the character Grandpa Joe from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Towards the end of the film, Charlie and Grandpa Joe approach Wonka, played by Gene Wilder, about a promised lifetime supply of chocolate. Wonka denies him as Joe and Charlie stole Fizzy Lifting Drinks and got his ceiling dirty in a previous scene.
