Observance of the constitution is entrusted to the patriotism of the Greeks who shall have the right and the duty to resist by all possible means against anyone who attempts the violent abolition of the Constitution. Greece's Constitution of 1975 with Amendments through 2008.
Throughout the past 45 years since its enactment, the Constitution of 1975 has been revised four times. The first of those revisions, which took place in the year 1986, focused on the institution of the President of the Re-public, whose competences were curtailed by the govern-mental majority then in power.

It came into force on 11 June 1975 (adopted two days prior) and has been amended in 1986, 2001, 2008 and 2019. The constitutional history of Greece goes back to the Greek War of Independence (1821–1832), during which the first three Greek constitutions were adopted by the revolutionary national assemblies.
During the modern history of Greece, the Constitution of 1975/1986/2001/2008/2019 is the last in a series of democratically adopted Constitutions (with the exception of the Constitutions of 1968 and 1973 imposed by a dictatorship).
