18 Ιαν 2023 · Effective immediately, all Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment (LASAN) customers should use the green bin to dispose of all food scraps and food-soiled paper, along with their existing yard waste. This is due to California Senate Bill 1383, which requires jurisdictions to reduce the disposal of their organic waste from landfills by 75% by 2025.
Green Waste. California law (AB 939) required all cities and counties to reduce the amount of waste they sent to landfills by 50% by the year 2000. The City of Los Angeles met and surpassed that goal. The diversion of green waste has helped in doing that. Green waste is waste from your yard and garden, such as grass, leaves and branches.

Food soiled paper. Yard waste. Food scraps and food-soild paper are now accepted in the Green "Organics" Bin. The organics collected will be turned into compost.
