15 Ιαν 2012 · Going from steel strings to gut strings on your double bass is a similar experience. Gut strings are not as dense as steel strings. They require more material to make up for their lack of mass (the mass of the string is an important factor in producing a note that is loud enough to hear).
9 Μαρ 2004 · I think this question is really bass orientated, some basses respond better to gut/steel strings & how the bassist precieves that sound they have in their heads. On my bass gut sounds bawdy and mellow and steel has an edge with brighter definition.

11 Δεκ 1999 · Other people to not have a problem but I cannot stand bowing gut unless all four strings on the bass are gut. Going between a high tension E and A and a low tension D and G with the bow drives me nuts although it works well for pizz.

The strings are a lot thicker and coarser, and they are affected by the most minute changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure (usually related to humidity). Pitch stability, even with open strings, can sometimes be challenging.
