30 Οκτ 2023 · A gyrus (plural: gyri) is a ridge on the surface of the brain. Each ridge is surrounded by fissures known as sulci (singular: sulcus). Gyri are unique structures that have an important evolutionary function; they increase the surface area of the brain up to an impressive 2000 centimeters squared.
Study with Quizlet and memorize flashcards containing terms like Name the function for each of the gyri: Precentral Gyrus, Inferior frontal gyrus, Postcentral gyrus and more.
Definition. A gyrus is a ridge on the cerebral cortex, the outer layer of the brain, which is characterized by its folds. These ridges are separated by grooves called sulci and are essential for increasing the brain's surface area to accommodate more neurons.
Learn about human anatomy and physiology online by downloading OpenStax's free Anatomy and Physiology 2e book and using our accompanying study guide.
Define homeostasis and explain its importance to normal human functioning; Use appropriate anatomical terminology to identify key body structures, body regions, and directions in the body; Compare and contrast at least four medical imaging techniques in terms of their function and use in medicine
Anatomy and Physiology 2e is developed to meet the scope and sequence for a two-semester human anatomy and physiology course for life science and allied health majors. The book is organized by body systems. The revision focuses on inclusive and equitable instruction and includes new student support.
