Vincent Trout Hamlin (May 10, 1900 – June 14, 1993), who preferred the name V. T. Hamlin, was an American comic strip cartoonist. He created the popular, long-run comic strip Alley Oop, syndicated by the Newspaper Enterprise Association.
V.T. Hamlin was the creator of the comic strip about caveman 'Alley Oop'. Born Vincent Trout Hamlin in 1900 in Perry, Iowa, he enlisted in the U.S. army at age seventeen and was sent to France during World War I as part of the American Expeditionary Forces.
Hamlin married Dorothy Stapleton in 1926. His daughter, Theodora, was born in 1927 and son Jon in 1936. Dorothy died in 1985. V.T. Hamlin died in 1993. Materials do not circulate but are available to all users in the Special Collections Reading Room during service hours or by appointment.
