25 Μαρ 2024 · Extreme heat raises the risk of death from heat-related disease, necessitating preventative measures such as adaptation methods to mitigate the adverse effects on vulnerable populations during hot weather. This study highlights the social inequalities in heat exposure and adverse health outcomes.
1 Σεπ 2018 · In this review of studies of health impacts of heatwaves, a mismatch was identified between research effort (as measured by the number and location of studies) and need (as suggested by several indicators of population level vulnerability).
28 Μαΐ 2024 · Key facts. Heat is an important environmental and occupational health hazard. Heat stress is the leading cause of weather-related deaths and can exacerbate underlying illnesses including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental health, asthma, and can increase the risk of accidents and transmission of some infectious diseases.
Heatwaves can burden health and emergency services and also increase strain on water, energy and transportation resulting in power shortages or even blackouts. Food and livelihood security may also be strained if people lose their crops or livestock due to extreme heat.
Climate change impacts human health in both direct and indirect ways. Extreme heat waves, rising sea level, changes in precipitation resulting in flooding and droughts, and intense hurricanes can directly cause injury, illness, and even death.
21 Αυγ 2021 · Key messages. •. People are unnecessarily suffering and dying in the heat, with population health and community vulnerability often unrecognised. •. Other heat-related effects include reduced occupational health and productivity, and increased sports illnesses and injuries. •.
27 Μαΐ 2022 · The current chapter focuses primarily on heat waves addressing in detail their definition, generation, future projection, and synergy with the urban heat island (UHI) effect and air pollution in cities, as well as their harsh impacts on several sectors and the approaches for mitigating these effects.
