24 Αυγ 2018 · Major Causes and Effects of Soil Erosion on People and the Environment. Soil erosion is the most serious precursor of soil degradation that comes with global implications. Nearly 10 million hectares of arable land are lost to erosion and other forms of soil degradation every year [1].
Because of coastal erosion, our communities are being threatened. People are forced to move, houses are collapsing into the ocean. According to the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, coastal erosion is responsible for roughly $500 million per year in coastal property loss.
