New International Version You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. New Living Translation Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. English Standard Version
EASY. You need to be patient and strong. Then you will continue to do what God wants. As a result, you will receive what God has promised. EHV. Certainly you need patient endurance so that, after you do God’s will, you may receive what was promised. ESV.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
This reading is followed by the traditional Greek editions and the KJV and Geneva English versions. However, a dozen or so Greek manuscripts instead read “bound ones,” and this is the reading of contemporary critical editions of the GNT.
