Diabetes insipidus is rare in dogs and cats and results from deficiency of ADH or lack of response to ADH, or it can be secondary to brain trauma. Diagnosis can be achieved through administration of a water deprivation test or by showing an increase in urine osmolality after ADH supplementation.
