Historic hotel from back in the Jim Crow days. lots of memorabilia from the movie “One Night in Miami” and the days when MLK, Malcolm X AND Cassius Clay frequented the hotel. The guides Edwin and LaCrissia do a great job bringing that history to life. It’s for everyone but a must see for Black history.

The two-story, fifty-room, modernist style inn featured a jazz club, a restaurant and a swimming pool where Martin Luther King, Jr. was famously photographed enjoying a leisurely swim. While the Hampton House was a hotspot for entertainment, it was also called the “Social Center of the South”.

18 Ιαν 2021 · Opened in the mid-1950s by Harry and Florence Markowitz, a white Jewish couple, the 50-room upscale motel with a fitted jazz lounge, 24-hour restaurant, and swimming pool became a hotspot for famous African-Americans visiting the city.
