  3. The early history of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church is directly connected with the rapid expansion of the northern boundaries of the city of Chicago, and the immigration of large numbers of German speaking Lutherans from Europe.

After the war ended in 1945, many servicemen and women moved to new housing in the suburbs. Many African Americans from the south chose to stay in Chicago.
