20 Ιαν 2023 · The history of hockey in Canada dates back to the nineteenth century. In 1875, the first indoor hockey game was held in Montreal, Quebec. In 1914, a group of 21 hockey teams in Ottawa organized the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.

Hockey thus became a common activity, on ground and occasionally on ice, and its popularity spread out of London.
From these roots, the contemporary sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Montreal, where the first indoor hockey game was played on March 3, 1875, at the Victoria Skating Rink, organized by James Creighton, a McGill University student from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Interesting to note that Frank Stocking, who was born in New York and a star with the St. Nicholas club there, was the first American player to make his imprint in Canadian hockey.
