Emo. Emo / ˈiːmoʊ / is a music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of hardcore punk and post-hardcore from the mid-1980s Washington, D.C. hardcore scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore.
Emo is not yet a genre of its own, but rather an influential movement in punk music, which adds a raw, emotional aspect to songs. Notable bands related to the movement are Rites of Spring and Embrace. The movement fades in the 1990's. Jan 22, 1993.
