12 Σεπ 2021 · Fall River is a historic town in Massachusetts. Settled in the 17 th century, it eventually became a booming mill town in the 19 th century and is most famous for being the scene of the unsolved Borden murders in 1892.
Fall River is known for the Lizzie Borden case, the Fall River cult murders, Portuguese culture, its numerous 19th-century textile mills and Battleship Cove, home of the world's largest collection of World War II naval vessels (including the battleship USS Massachusetts).
Renamed Troy, it reverted (1831) to its earlier name (derived from the Algonquian term Quequechan, meaning “Falling Water”). Abundant waterpower, a fine harbour, and a moist climate encouraged textile milling in the town as early as 1811, and by 1871 the city was a leading cotton-textile centre.
The Fall River Historical Society is Where History Matters. We are dedicated to collecting and exhibiting artifacts relative to the history and multi-cultural people of Fall River.
