Mistletoe State Park is a 1,972 acre (7.98 km 2) Georgia state park located northwest of Augusta, Georgia on the southern shore of Lake Strom Thurmond. The park gets its name from Mistletoe Corners, [1] a local area where people gather to pick mistletoe during the winter holiday season.
Mistletoe State Park has 10 fully equipped cottages on the lake, five of which are log cabins. The campground is situated on a peninsula, offering spectacular views of both sunset and sunrise over the open water.
In 2001 the state took over 15 owned by the Taliaferro County Board of Education, which brought the park to its current acreage. The park’s history is linked with the legacy of Alexander H. Stephens. His home, Liberty Hall, is the focal point of the state’s acquisition of the park.
For those who prefer camping, there is a campground with tent, trailer, and RV sites. Additionally, there is a four-bed tent cabin with electricity and water, perfect for a rustic camping experience. Mistletoe State Park is located within Columbia County, Georgia on the southern shore of Lake Strom Thurmond. The history of the park dates back to 1952 when the United States Corps of Engineers leased 1,920 acres on the banks of the J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir to the State of Georgia.
