Parnpangans: Colonial Society in a Philippine Province. Larkin, however, gave relatively little attention to the period before the eighteenth century. Professor Cortes, on the other hand, has limited herself to this period, and has given us the first detailed study of the development of any Philippine region in the early Spanish period.

Abstract. The history of ancient Pangasinan peoples is yet to be written. Rosario Cortes has written what has been regarded as groundbreaking narrative of Pangasinan history consisting of three volumes (1974, 1990a, 1990b).
