Connect. The obvious first step in collaborating with families is making a connection. This initial outreach to a family can be as simple as requesting a meeting, or the family may reach out to you first because they want to know how they can help.
Effectively building this school-to-home connection starts by replacing homework that impedes relationships with homework that will enhance them. Examples for building these connections include ways for students to share about family traditions, cultural practices, and/or family adventures.
