15 Ιουν 2012 · What is the best brass? Should I use “once fired” or “military surplus” brass? Is quality of Lapua brass really worth the added cost? I stumbled upon some info on 6mmBR.com about a year ago containing some data that can be used to compare of brass uniformity between manufacturers.
8 Αυγ 2021 · There were a couple comments about Hornady brass being among some of the worst. I'm still new to reloading and found that thread to be really informative. To honor the OP's request and NOT debate what IS the best gear, I started this.
20 Φεβ 2020 · Hornady brass is slightly thicker reducing the powder capacity ever so slightly. I think Hornady brass is a little softer. Softer is good for necks and shoulders but maybe not so good for primer pockets.
24 Μαΐ 2013 · I picked up some Hornady once fired 7mm Rem brass from Gunbroker when I couldn't find brass anywhere. Once I got it sorted, I loaded some up with my proven Winchester brass loads and it produced velocities equal to Winchester brass and excellent ES without any pressure sign.
3 Ιαν 2013 · Hornady is pretty good quality. Will give you better "out of the box tolerances". It's a little softer than most brass so it may not last quite as long as some in high pressure rounds that are pushed to the limit. But for normal SAAMI listed pressures, it should last plenty long.
20 Ιουν 2023 · In yesterday’s case, I had a couple of loads left over from tests for a different rifle: a Sauer in the same caliber. So the rounds weren’t even loaded with this particular rifle in mind. The Lapua brass had never been fired, but had been weight sorted in to two groups (heavy, and light).
29 Ιουν 2019 · Hodgdon BL-C powder is good in the .222 Remington and it is easy on barrel life. I assume your bolt action rifle has a 1 in 12 or a 1 in 14 twist rate so stay with 50 and 55 grain bullets. Pyrex glass and Acrylic reservoirs for Spolar, P/W, Hornady and MEC. I've had good luck with IMR 4198.
