  1. Evidence that supports estrogen as a prostate cancer-causing agent includes association of elevated levels of estrogen with prostate cancer, changes in estrogen receptor status in advanced prostate cancer, and rodent models and chimeric human tissue graft models showing induction of prostate cancer using estrogen plus testosterone.

  2. In response to in vitro estrogen exposure, estrogen regulated genes (progesterone receptor, pS2) are activated again pointing towards a role for ERß in the differentiated function of the prostatic cell. Together, these findings indicate that, in the prostate epithelium, ERβ may be the key mediator of estrogen-induced events.

  3. Estrogens play a role in proliferation in the prostate, but interestingly are capable of stimulating as well as inhibiting growth. This duality of action is specifically due to activation of each ER: ERα and ERβ. Estrogens directly induce aberrant proliferation in the basal layer of the prostate epithelium.

  4. 1 Ιουν 2018 · The effects of estrogen in the prostate are mediated by estrogen receptors alpha and beta (ERα and ERβ). These two receptors have different expression and functions in the prostate, thereby presenting a window of opportunity to selectively target them for therapeutic purposes in BPH.

  5. This review addresses the role of estrogens in prostate carcinogenesis and prostate cancer progression and examines the rationale for using antiestrogenic agents in chemoprevention of prostate cancer.

  6. 21 Αυγ 2018 · Estrogen and G protein-coupled estrogen receptor accelerate the progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia by inducing prostatic fibrosis. Article Open access 07 June 2022....

  7. 18 Ιαν 2018 · Estrogens in Prostate Carcinogenesis. in situ. Go to: ERs in PC. Figure 1. Illustrates the putative role of ER (α or β) in PC. Figure 2. Estrogen or androgen stimulation rapidly leads to extranuclear assembly of estrogen receptor (ERβ)/androgen receptor (AR)/Src ternary complex in LNCaP cells.
