My two big comets were about 3" when I got them. I fed them twice a day and within a year, they were around 6". I've now had them a little over 3 years and they're 7-8". I would suggest feeding them several smaller feedings per day instead of one big one since goldfish don't have stomachs and can't store a lot of food.
