7 Ιουλ 2020 · Floodplains form due to erosion and deposition. Erosion removes any interlocking spurs, creating a wide, flat area on either side of the river. During a flood, the material being carried by the river is deposited (as the river loses its speed and energy to transport material).

22 Σεπ 2024 · The upland and lowland areas of rivers have distinctive landforms. Upland: Waterfalls. Gorges. V-shaped valleys. Interlocking spurs. Waterfalls and gorges. Waterfalls form where there is a drop in the river bed from one level to another. This drop is often due to changes in the hardness of the rock, where hard rock overlies soft rock.
24 Μαΐ 2024 · As the water spirals toward the inside of the meander it is slowed by frictional drag imposed by the bed of the channel. This causes deposition of alluvium on the inside bank to form a bar. A point bar forms on the inside bank of a meander and rising from the channel as an accumulation of alluvium.
They are created where sediment accumulates within naturally occurring small depressions on the rock surface on the river bed. Turbulent flow swirls the stones (called grinders) around in the depressions, widening and deepening them through the prolonged process of abrasion.
