How long do background checks take? Checks made on the PATCH site can return some results immediately for individuals with no records. Checks that require more investigation are marked “under review” and may take two to four weeks.

These checks must be updated every 5 years and applications can be submitted on the Department of Human Services’ Child Welfare Portal or through the mail.
