Among the precautions to minimize these risks are antibiotic coverage, limited extractions at any one time, soft tissue closure, and hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Rapid epithelization and minimal bone exposure are essential after extractions in irradiated patients.

19 Μαρ 2023 · If extractions are performed before the first cycle of radiation therapy, the ideal interval between extraction and the beginning of RT should be between ten days and three weeks so that complete soft tissue healing occurs.
Osteoradionecrosis may be prevented by extracting these teeth at least 2 weeks before radiotherapy, (periodontally involved teeth, unerupted teeth). Prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease and their sequelae can prevent ORN in most cases.
4 Φεβ 2014 · Should this fail or if extractions become necessary, general dentists can safely extract teeth out of field or in fields less than 50 Gray with primary closure of the socket. Teeth in fields greater than 50 Gray should be referred to the treating oral and maxillofacial surgery department.
