The wrist or carpus consists of eight small irregular bones arranged in two rows of four. Proximal row: Scaphoid, lunate, triquetral and pisiform. Distal row: Trapezium, trapezoid, capitate and hammate. The wrist joint has two main components: radiocarpal and midcarpal.
31 Μαρ 2023 · The wrist joint (also known as the radiocarpal joint) is an articulation between the radius and the carpal bones of the hand. It is condyloid-type synovial joint which marks the area of transition between the forearm and the hand.
The two bones are held together mainly by the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) and to a lesser degree by the interosseous membrane and the pronator quadratus muscle (Fig. 1).
Bones. The skeleton of the hand and wrist consists of 27 bones, 8 carpals, 5 metacarpals, and 14 phalanges. Carpal bones are summarized in the Table 1 (see also chapters Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tendon Pathologies of the Wrist, Carpal Instabilities in Athletes ”).
