You can view and change your computer’s name in the About settings window. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click About. Select the current computer name, then type a new name. Change your computer’s local hostname.

Rename files, folders, and disks on Mac. You can change the name of most files, folders, and disks, including the internal hard disk (named Macintosh HD by default). If you change the name of your hard disk, it still appears with its original name on a network.
It is possible to rename spaces using an app called Spaces Renamer. It is available on GitHub for free. I am unsure if it can change the "default" name of desktops as you requested, but it can customize the name of desktops you already have. Please check the below screenshots for an example. 31 Ιαν 2021 · FWIW, it's easy enough to set up Desktops as work rooms, music rooms, web rooms etc. You can easily switch between them either by clicking on the app you want in the Dock or command tab between them. You don't have to remember which Desktop they are in or what their room name is.
12 Φεβ 2024 · It does not seem so complicated : a click on the name of the desktop when the upper horizontal pane appear, type the name, enter to submit, and done. There is multiple posts on this forum asking for this feature.
