9 Σεπ 2023 · Before leaving the UK, ensure that you have the necessary VAT refund form from the retailer, and get it validated at the customs office at your point of departure. After validation, you can either claim your refund at designated refund points or follow the retailer's or refund service's procedure.
Procedure of submission of a VAT refund application. The VAT refund procedure has been harmonized at EU level and applies in all Member States in accordance with Directive 2008/9/EC. The VAT refund application must be electronically submitted at the tax authorities of the member-states of the company’s home country.
To request a refund, claimants must send an electronic refund claim to their own national tax authorities, who will confirm the claimant's identity, VAT identification number and the validity of the claim. The request will then be forwarded to the Member State where VAT was incurred.
Submit a VAT refund claim to other EU member states. Attention! IMPORTANT NOTE: The United Kingdom in no longer an EU member state. Therefore, for expenses incurred in the UK during 2020, you may submit your VAT Refund application (s) electronically no later than 31/3/2021.
