Abstract. Math journals provide students with opportunities to articulate their understanding of math concepts and/or their frustrations with the gaps in those understandings. The use of these journals supports metacognitive thinking to enhance understanding and application.
Student Engagement and Motivation in Mathematics. Student engagement in mathematics is multifaceted and has affective, cognitive, and behavioral constructs and the level of engagement affects the quality of the learning outcome (Al-Mutawah & Fateel, 2018; Fredricks et al., 2004; Kong et al., 2003).
