  1. 16 Νοε 2022 · Critical points will show up in most of the sections in this chapter, so it will be important to understand them and how to find them. We will work a number of examples illustrating how to find them for a wide variety of functions.

  2. To find critical points of a function, take the derivative, set it equal to zero and solve for x, then substitute the value back into the original function to get y. Check the second derivative test to know the concavity of the function at that point.

  3. To find the critical point (s) of a function y = f (x): Step - 1: Find the derivative f ' (x). Step - 2: Set f ' (x) = 0 and solve it to find all the values of x (if any) satisfying it. Step - 3: Find all the values of x (if any) where f ' (x) is NOT defined.

  4. To check if a critical point is maximum, a minimum, or a saddle point, using only the first derivative, the best method is to look at a graph to determine the kind of critical point. For some applications we want to categorize the critical points symbolically.

  5. Find critical points and extrema step by step. The calculator will try to find the critical (stationary) points, the relative (local) and absolute (global) maxima and minima of the single variable function. The interval can be specified.

  6. Get the free "Critical/Saddle point calculator for f(x,y)" widget for your website, blog, Wordpress, Blogger, or iGoogle. Find more Mathematics widgets in Wolfram|Alpha.

  7. Explain how to find the critical points of a function over a closed interval; Describe how to use critical points to locate absolute extrema over a closed interval
