1 Νοε 2023 · The easiest way to melt metal into liquid is to heat it in a small, enclosed vessel that is heated from below. You can make your own using a small empty propane tank or metal bucket, plaster of paris, sand, metal pipe, charcoal briquettes, and a steel can.
You can make crucible steel with a coke or coal furnace. That's the only "home" way of making steel that is reasonably within reach. I have also seen people melt iron in charcoal furnaces with an EGR system rigged up, and if you can melt iron reliably then steel is close by.
I'll show you the easy way to start melting metal at home, as well as give you some safety ... Bear with me as I get the hang of talking to myself on camera :).
The easiest way to melt iron is with a cupola furnace that uses coke as fuel. A 15" cupola is capable of supplying 50 pounds of molten iron every 15 minutes. A good book on this is available here at zlibrary.com. I'll also give you my metal casting here.
15 Δεκ 2011 · there is a way of melting small amounts steel safely at home with something that i think is called fire brick or something and arcing high voltage electricity between 2 carbon rods to create plasma. It's not really blacksmithing but more of a novelty.
