11 Ιουν 2012 · 28. Stuck barrel nut. So I'm in the process of trying to get my barrel nut removed from my .308 with the factory 22" sporter barrel on it. Apparently I got one of the ones with the gorrilla tightened nut.
2 Ιουν 2014 · The quickest and easiest way to remove a smooth barrel nut from the factory is to use a pipe wrench and replace it with a slotted or smooth nut. With all the blasting grit and bluing salts they are tough to break loose the first time even with a SSS smooth nut wrench.
16 Φεβ 2017 · You can feel it when you twist a barrel nut on that has a tight fit - almost grinds. I think most of this has to do with surface finishes "mating in" over time under torque. Heat/cool all you want, nothing except a die grinder and a new nut - with some type of anti-siieze - is going to solve it.
8 Οκτ 2013 · I put the barrel in a barrel vice and use an action wrench to back (unscrew) the action away from the nut. No muss, no fuss. As soon as the action breaks away from the nut, the nut and barrel unscrewed by hand.
6 Ιουλ 2012 · I put the barreled action in the barrel vice, hold the action with the action wrench, then take a wooden mallet and strike the nut wench. The quick snap will brake the nut free. BE SURE that front scope mount screw is not in contact with the barrel.
28 Σεπ 2007 · If you haven't got it off yet just put it in the lathe and use a thin grooving tool to cut through the nut just next to the action. This relief cut should release any stretch on the threads and allow its removal.
