Stripping the Film. The other tool to make removing the film less problematic is ammonia or an ammonia-based solvent. In order to speed up the process, apply the ammonia to the glass before heating. When working with ammonia, be sure you are in a well-ventilated area, as overexposure to ammonia fumes can be toxic.
