24 Απρ 2023 · The annual rise from pre-industrial to 2026 could be more than 18.44°C by 2026, and monthly anomalies could reach even higher. Meanwhile, humans are likely to go extinct with a rise of 3°C and most life on Earth will disappear with a 5°C rise, as illustrated by the image below, from an analysis discussed in an earlier post .
Will humans be extinct by 2026? In the Arctic, vast amounts of carbon are stored in soils that are now still largely frozen. As temperatures continue to rise and soils thaw, much of this carbon will be converted by microbes into carbon dioxide or methane, adding further greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
Life is disappearing from Earth and all life could be gone within one decade. Study after study is showing the size of the threat, yet many people seem out to hide what we're facing. In the Arctic alone, four tipping points look set to be crossed within a few years:
12 ώρες πριν · Timing of the first ice-free day. The earliest ice-free day occurs 3 years after 2023-equivalent conditions, based on the 11 analyzed CMIP6 models (under SSP1-2.6, Fig. 1a and Table 1).Another two ...
