HuntSAFE Class Information. NOTICE: Anyone younger than 16 years old needs to complete an in-person Field Day (included in the in-person HuntSAFE class). In-person HuntSAFE classes and Field Days are primarily scheduled during the spring and summer months across the state.

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the HuntSAFE Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt. Complete the South Dakota hunter education certification requirements. Choose the correct license type.
Residents and non-residents at least 12 years old, or who will turn 12 by December 31, may hunt any season they are licensed for after September 1. They must possess a Hunter Safety Card (or in case of non-residents, a copy of a current or previous hunting license issued to them from any state).
