Many physical and chemical properties of hydrogen depend on the parahydrogen/orthohydrogen ratio (it often takes days or weeks at a given temperature to reach the equilibrium ratio, for which the data is usually given). Hydrogen detonation parameters, such as critical detonation pressure and temperature, strongly depend on the container geometry.
Hydrogen forms weak bonds between molecules, latching onto adjacent oxygen, nitrogen or fluorine atoms. It's these hydrogen bonds that give water many of its properties. If they didn't exist, the boiling point of water would be below -70 degrees Celsius.

This reaction is highly exothermic (283kJ/mol) 2H 2 + O 2 → 2H 2 O. At high temperatures, hydrogen reacts with strong electropositive metals like Na, K, Ca, etc. to produce metal hydrides. H 2 + 2Na →2NaH.
