1 Μαρ 2017 · A downward shift of the TSH reference range occurs during pregnancy, with a reduction in both the lower (decreased by about 0.1–0.2 mU/L) and the upper limit of maternal TSH (decreased by about 0.5–1.0 mU/L), relative to the typical nonpregnant TSH reference range.
11 Αυγ 2023 · Women found to have a TSH level greater than 10 mIU/L in the first trimester of pregnancy should be treated for hypothyroidism. Conversely, women with a TSH of 2.5 or less, do not need levothyroxine treatment.
Overt hypothyroidism in pregnancy is identified when TSH > 10 mIU/L, and treatment with LT4 is readily recommended at an initial dose of 2 mcg/kg/day.
15 Ιαν 2017 · New evidence-based recommendations from the American Thyroid Association (ATA) provide guidance to clinicians in diagnosing and managing thyroid disease during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Pregnancy has a profound effect on thyroid gland function, and thyroid disease is common in pregnancy.
Overall then, TSH tends to be lower than usual with a transient rise in free T4 levels during the 1st trimester. TSH then normalises for the rest of pregnancy, and there is a modest fall in Free T4 in 2nd and 3rd trimester, but still within normal ranges; free T3 levels are similar.
