Ice hockey consists of three basic skills – stickhandling, passing, and shooting. Stickhandling requires superb hand-eye coordination, the ability to cradle a puck and feint an opponent at the right moment. Passing requires vision, timing, and anticipation. Shooting requires practice and strength and technique.
Icing the puck is the action of a player shooting, batting, kicking, or deflecting the puck from their own half of the ice, as divided by the centre red line, down and across the goal line in the opposing team’s defending zone. If the puck enters the net on such a play, then it is not icing.
1 Ιουλ 2024 · In hockey, the icing rule is applied when a player shoots or deflects the puck from their team’s half of the rink to the opponents’ goal line without any opposing player touching it. This rule is enforced when the puck crosses both the center red line and the opposing team’s goal line untouched by any player from the opposing team.
Icing occurs when a hockey player at one side of the rink flips the puck to the other side of the rink. The puck then crosses the red goal line. Icing is used on defense and offense. As a defensive strategy, the idea is to move the puck away from the offensive players.

Employed as both a defensive and offensive strategy, icing occurs when a player shoots the puck across both the center red line and the opposing team’s goal line without it being touched by another player.
The icing rule was implemented so that if you shot the puck down the ice before you had reached the center red line and the puck goes down past the goal line then the play will be whistled down and a faceoff will result in the zone of the team that had shot the puck down the ice.
