Ilex glabra 'Shamrock' (Inkberry) is an evergreen, stoloniferous shrub of compact, rounded habit with slender foliage of thick, spineless, dark green leaves. In late spring to early summer, it produces abundant small greenish-white flowers that are followed by a profusion of dark blue-black berries in fall.
In addition to honey bees, this plant serves as a host plant for the Henry's elfin (Callophrys henrici) butterfly. Its upright, rounded habit makes inkberry an effective hedge, windbreak, or privacy screen. Also, consider using it in a butterfly, children's, pollinator, rain or winter garden.

23 Δεκ 2022 · At the University of Georgia, I assembled a collection of Ilex glabra cultivars and over the three- to four-year evaluation period, ‘Nigra’ proved best because of the lustrous dark green foliage, compact habit and leaf retention to the base. ‘Shamrock’ is also highly rated because of the glistening dark green foliage.
