There are two main loops of campsites that you can choose at Illini State Park. We stayed in the Great Falls Loop. All of the reviews I read said to stay on the sites that are right next to the river.
Whitetail Campground, near Illini State Park, is a solid choice for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life without straying too far from Chicago. This campground offers a mix of tent, RV, and cabin accommodations, making it versatile enough for different camping styles.
We enjoyed camping at Illini state park. We booked fairly last minute so it was the best available option, but we will go back. Sites were a little close together and we chose ours based on a water source which turns out, wasn’t there anymore. But, we were close to the showers and bathrooms.

This state park is a great bargain! Private clean camp sites and many shaded. My kids love to camp by the playground and CP ice cream shop which is my favorite too. It’s my new favorite “local” campground since I paid only $10 for non electric sites.
