For decades, Illinois outdoor enthusiasts enjoyed learning about the state’s natural resources and recreational activities through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ (IDNR) former, award-winning magazine OutdoorIllinois.
Illinois state-owned protected areas include state parks, state forests, state recreation areas, state fish and wildlife areas, state natural areas, and one state trail. These areas are all administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Our permits provide a means to document the ethical treatment of natural resources throughout the State of Illinois and enable citizens to responsibly engage in legitimate wildlife management and conservation-related activities that would otherwise be prohibited by law.
