18 Αυγ 2021 · Herein, we review the current literature that highlights human herpesvirus inhibition and exploitation of the innate immune responses, using herpes simplex virus (HSV), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) as examples.

14 Δεκ 2023 · In a study of lab-engineered cells, Harvard Med researchers identify how the immune system neutralizes the herpesvirus. The research maps, for the first time, the maneuvers used by virus and host in the cell nucleus, a poorly understood terrain of host-pathogen interaction.
The first line of protection against microbes is innate immunity, which encompasses all the mechanisms that provide barriers or restriction to infection and the signaling pathways that produce antiviral molecules.
17 Νοε 2015 · The obstacles to creating an effective vaccine that protects someone from contracting herpes involve both the virus itself and the tissue where it typically enters the body. Most vaccines generate antibodies – the body’s natural defenses that attack invading microorganisms that can cause disease.
This review summarizes our current understanding of the innate immune responses to HSV-2 and the mechanisms by which HSV-2 can overcome these barriers. Newly emerging links between products of innate responses and the development of adaptive immune responses are also discussed.
25 Ιαν 2011 · Innate immune defence against herpesviruses is highly dependent on the type I interferon system and natural killer cells. Model studies in mice and genetic data from humans have revealed...
6 Μαρ 2013 · The rapid clearance of HSV-2 in the genital mucosa by resident and virus-specific immune cells that persist in the mucosa suggests new ways to harness the immune system to develop effective...
