Salvage title vehicles in Missouri must undergo a salvage inspection by the Missouri State Highway Patrol before they can be re-registered and titled for road use. This inspection is to ensure that the vehicle has been repaired properly and is safe to operate.
You must submit the requirements outlined below before you can title your rebuilt vehicle. The new certificate of title that issues in your name will be designated as “Prior Salvage” on the face of the title. To title a motor vehicle in the state of Missouri, the owner must submit the following: The Certificate of Title, properly signed over to you (see instructions), or Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO); A signed Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108);

The Missouri Department of Revenue (MO DOR) issues a salvage certificate to each owner of vehicles whose repair cost is greater than the fair market value.
Companies that insure vehicles in Missouri can designate a car as a total loss and change its title designation to “salvage” when the cost of repairing damages exceeds 80 percent of the fair market value of the vehicle prior to the event.
