Most adult learners who enrol in an English language course are keen to learn how to speak the language. While it is important for them to develop listening, reading and writing skills, speaking is frequently a priority.
The importance of devoting attention to oral skills in HE is also highlighted in section 2. An Oracy Skills Framework and examples of how this framework has been implemented in HE are shared in section 3. Then, in section 4, further practical ways to encourage oral participation and facilitate oral skills development are discussed.
