12 Αυγ 2024 · If you are a nonresident who owns land in Georgia, then you ARE required to purchase a nonresident hunting license, as well as a nonresident big game license if hunting deer, turkey or bear, the free big game harvest log, and a Georgia migratory bird permit if hunting dove, ducks or geese.
You are allowed to harvest one deer per license. There are two military areas (Crane NWSC and Atterbury MMTC) and two refuge areas (Muscatatuck NWR and Big Oaks NWR). Each has its own requirements for hunting deer on its respective properties. If you are selected for a hunt on one or more of these properties, information will be available online.
However, the vast majority of Georgia forestland is privately owned. When searching for your next hunting venue, do not overlook private land options—which can be attained via general hunting permission, formal lease contracts, or by joining a preexisting hunting club.
Traditionally, hunters have visited door-to-door to ask permission for hunting access on private land. Use the following guidelines to plan your visit to a landowner’s door step and improve your chances of gaining permission.
The Indiana Private Lands Access Program (IPLA – formerly known as APPLE) offers financial incentives to landowners who allow controlled public hunting access on their private property. This program is funded in part by the federal Farm Bill under the Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program (VPA-HIP).
