8 Σεπ 2024 · Cats, also called domestic cats (Felis catus), are small, carnivorous (meat-eating) mammals, of the family Felidae. Domestic cats are often called house cats when they are kept as indoor pets. Cats have been domesticated (tamed) for nearly 10,000 years.
A female cat gives birth to a litter of kittens about two months after mating. A female may have two to three litters a year. The average litter is four kittens, but there may be only one kitten or as many as seven.
Cats are considered to be ‘elderly’ when they hit 11 years of age, with seniors defined as between 11 and 14 and so-called “super-senior” or geriatric cats at age 15 and higher. (So, my Rune cat is a super-senior).
